Prohibited Waste Terms & Conditions

Important guidelines to ensure safe, legal, and responsible waste management across all skip bin hires.

1. Important Guidelines

To ensure that we meet the state government's regulations for safe and effective waste management, hazardous materials like asbestos and toxic or flammable liquids must not be placed in our skip bins. A few of our clients have experienced bin fires as a result of placing such items in their skip bin, which is a serious fire risk to property.

Please note that we are not licensed to handle prohibited substances and, if they appear in any of our bins, we will give you the option to retrieve the prohibited item(s) or to pay the cost of a specialist contractor to legally dispose of the offending item(s).

The cost of handling prohibited substances, plus a handling fee, will be passed onto the offending client.

⚠️ Please read carefully before hiring. Placing prohibited items in a skip bin may result in additional charges, legal liability, and safety hazards. If you are unsure whether an item is acceptable, contact us before disposal.

2. What Cannot Go In Your Bin

The following items are strictly prohibited from all Superior Skip Bins (SBS) skip bins under any circumstances.

2.1 EPA Regulated Waste & Dangerous Goods

  • Asbestos (all forms)
  • Flammable goods and materials
  • Sharps and medical waste

2.2 Materials Subject to Decay

  • Food scraps and perishable goods
  • Dead animals

2.3 Liquids (Contained or Not)

  • Paint and stains
  • Oils and lubricants
  • Chemicals and solvents
  • Pool chemicals
  • Sharps in liquid containers

3. Tyres — Extra Charges Apply

Tyres are not prohibited but extra charges apply. Additional fees cover council tyre disposal fees and our handling costs.

🛞 Please contact us before placing tyres in a bin so we can advise on the applicable fee.

4. Demolition Jobs — Fibre Cement

For demolition jobs, fibre cement materials are subject to strict requirements due to the risk of asbestos contamination.

  • Any fibre cement material going into an SBS skip bin must be tested first.
  • The customer must hold a certificate confirming the material is not asbestos.
  • The certificate must be available to SBS on request before or during pickup.
  • If no certificate is available, the material cannot go in our bins.
⚠️ No certificate, no disposal. Untested fibre cement will be treated as prohibited waste and standard non-compliance charges will apply.

5. Non-Compliance Consequences

If prohibited items are found in your bin, you will be given the option to retrieve them yourself or cover the cost of a specialist contractor to legally dispose of the offending items. All associated costs plus a handling fee will be charged to the client.

5.1 Option 1 — Self Retrieval

You retrieve the prohibited item(s) yourself before the bin is collected or processed.

5.2 Option 2 — Specialist Disposal

We arrange a licensed specialist contractor to legally dispose of the item(s). All costs plus a handling fee will be passed on to you.
